Turkish Parenting Initiatives Project
Many Turkish-speaking families access individualised support. This community psychology project aimed to explore why families may not be accessing our groups and whether there is a current need, or if there are other effective, existing support services in place. We are working closely with professionals and parents to explore different options of providing culturally sensitive support.
Hackney Hidden River festival
First Steps hosted an information and play area within the festival offering activities for children and their parents e.g. mindfulness, arts & crafts, and den building. First Steps clinicians were on hand to answer any questions, and to let families know about our service.
Pembury Children’s Community
First Steps have been working in collaboration with the Pembury Children’s Community Programme. After consulting with the community on what would be helpful, some workshops were run using the narrative Tree of Life model. This enabled parents to tell their stories in ways that make them stronger and parents enjoyed the chance to think about their own hopes and wishes, and those that they had for their children.
Film Project – First Steps and CAMHS Disability
We teamed up with the Mouth That Roars (MTR); an independent youth media organisation in Hackney to create some short films. Several young people and parents who have used First Steps designed, filmed and starred in 5 videos that they felt would be useful for others who were interested in our service.
