Services

Specialist CAMHS

We are a team of professionals for children and young people who have significant and ongoing emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties that make it difficult to carry out everyday activities or relate well with other people.

We assess problems and try to find ways of working with you, and those who look after you, to understand and manage your mental health and make positive changes.

We might use a form of talking therapy, for example cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), family therapy or psychotherapy. We might also suggest medication alongside therapy if that is appropriate.

What we do

To start with we’ll invite you for an initial meeting which we call an assessment. We’ll talk to you about the difficulties you have been having, what you would like to be different and how we might help.

We will also look at how we can use your and your family’s strengths, skills and abilities to help the situation. We’ll discuss with you how we will work together with you on the difficulties you have identified and the goals you want to achieve and together develop a care plan. We always strive to respect people’s beliefs and identities and to be sensitive to your culture, race and gender and sexual orientation.

After the assessment, we’ll assign a clinician to lead your care with the best skills and experience to match your needs. Sometimes only a few meetings are needed and sometimes it takes longer. We’ll keep this under regular review with you.

Where we are

We’re based on Homerton Row near – but separate from – Homerton Hospital.

Working in partnership

We work closely with our partners in the CAMHS Alliance to ensure that you receive the most appropriate help. We also have links with the Coborn Centre for Adolescent Mental Health , an in-patient service for young people with complex and severe mental health difficulties. They look after children and young people aged between 12 and 18 years old, where appropriate.

Eligibility

We accept children and young people aged 0-18, registered with a GP in City and Hackney, with moderate, persistent, complex or severe mental health difficulties. For children under 16, we need the consent of a legally responsible parent or guardian.

Access our service

As a specialist service, we only accept referrals from a professional – such as a GP, family support practitioner, health visitor, school or college staff or social worker – using the referral form.

In addition, parents and guardians of children who have used our service in the last year, and young people themselves if aged over 16, can contact us directly to arrange a review by calling 020 3222 5600, 9am – 5pm weekdays.
